Information on travel routes to and from the Border 500 

Rail Network
Mainline trains to Carlisle & Newcastle from England & the South. Edinburgh and Glasgow from northern Scotland.  The recently opened Borders Railway, links Edinburgh with Galashiels and Tweedbank on the Border 500 Route.
Carlisle is not only linked by the west coast mainline served with Virgin's high speed service, but also the Settle to Carlisle line. This picturesque route through the Yorkshire Dales and Pennines often has special steam service running.
Ferry
Services offer visitors access to the Border 500 at the western and eastern ends of the route. Cainrayn, near Stranraer, offers services from Larne or Belfast in Northern Ireland.  
The port of Newcastle, connects the region to mainland Europe with a service to Holland.
